Emergency Preparedness for Child Care Programs
Nov. 9, 2023 | 6:30 to 8:30pm
In the face of more frequent and severe fires, flooding, and heat, and with the ever-present risk of earthquakes and tsunamis, it's never been more important to maintain a strong child care Emergency Plan. In this 60-minute workshop you'll learn how to identify the top hazards affecting your specific location, how to better prepare for each, how to ensure you're signed up to receive real-time emergency alerts, and how to practice your Emergency Plan in ways that are fun for your colleagues, children and families.
Environmental Health in Child Care Settings
Nov. 16, 2023 | 6:30pm to 8:30pm
As our knowledge about the impacts of things like wildfire smoke continue to grow, many child care programs are looking for tools and resources to help keep everyone healthy and safe. In this 60-minute workshop, you'll be introduced to some of the biggest factors impacting environmental health in child care settings: including inside your facility, in your play yard, and in the surrounding community. In all three places you'll learn about concrete actions you can take to reduce exposure to "the bad stuff" and increase exposure to "the good stuff."
Being Outdoors Together With Children
Nov. 22, 2023 | 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Children and Educators benefit from being outdoors in the fresh air, under the shade of the trees and feeling the wind. Outdoors children can connect with natural materials, run in the open air, and move more freely. To be comfortable and engaged with children outdoors we must plan and organize our spaces and ourselves. This takes knowledge and reflecting with co-workers. Whether we are inside or outside we want children to be engaged, as well as safe. We will explore some of the issues of getting children and ourselves outside.
Relationship to Land
Nov. 29, 2023 | 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Connecting to the life found in green spaces helps all of us feel part of the larger world. Acknowledging the place you live and the people who have cared for it begins our thinking about our relationship to land and how we can continue to care for it. We want to have a relationship of care with the place in which we live. We can help children learn to feel connected to the birds flying overhead, the wind that whispers to us and the water that we must all learn to honour. Can we include the living breathing world in our outdoor space? How might we work with children to honour the land, the air and the water?
