Tasks and Responsibilities
Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Summer will join our spring and summer team of educators and assistants to help plan and deliver fun, nurturing, developmentally appropriate activities for young children. The ECE/ECEA will work directly in our early learning and childcare setting, contributing to daily routines, play-based learning experiences, and supportive interactions that foster language development and social-emotional skills.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with planning, preparing, and delivering daily activities and play-based learning opportunities. Support the inclusion and participation of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, including those who use cochlear implants or hearing aids. Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring safety and wellbeing at all times. Help create a welcoming, calm, and supportive environment for children and families. Model positive behaviours and reinforce social-emotional learning through gentle guidance. Support routines such as transitions, meals/snacks, cleanup, and rest time. Collaborate with educators and assistants to deliver high-quality early learning experiences. Participate in team meetings, reflections, and planning sessions. Maintain cleanliness and organization of program spaces and materials.
Qualifications:
Basic ECE
Additional Qualifications:
Registered as an Early Childhood Educator or ECE-Assistant in BC.
Experience working with young children (volunteer or paid).
Interest in learning about hearing loss, assistive devices, and language-rich communication strategies.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Warm, patient, and reliable; able to remain calm and flexible in a busy childcare environment.
Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:
· Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
· Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection.
· Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
