Cohort 5 Projects

  • Bridging The Gaps

    Terrace

The Terrace leadership project team strengthened ties with other ECE communities in their region by coming together for inspirational and reflective practice retreats. Deeper more cohesive and meaningful relationships were established among ECE’s in the Northwest to help further create awareness of their work and enthusiasm for what they do.
  • Burnaby Mountain Community Educators

    Burnaby

The Burnaby leadership project team used pedagogical narrations and the BC Early Learning Framework to promote ECE’s work in the Burnaby mountain community. By making children’s learning visible (art displays, newsletters, workshops) and collaborating with other groups and faculties on campus, they hoped to raise the profile of Early Childhood Educators in the community and build bridges between staff, students, families and educators.
  • Our Image of the Child

    Prince George

The Prince George leadership project team brought workshops and motivational speakers to parents, caregivers and educators. The ECE's found their voice through greater self confidence and by finding confidence in themselves they could then pass that on to the ECE sector and the children in their care. They also strove to raise the “consciousness” of early childhood educators of the importance of their work, which in turn would encourage the sector to share that knowledge with parents and the community.
  • Quality Wilna T'ehl Values: Early Care & Learning

    Kitwanga

The Kitwanga leadership project team reached out to their community and the neighbouring communities to create a collaborative relationship with the band council and the schools to plan and implement community day conferences for parents that would showcase the importance of early childhood and the early childhood educators in the community. They were also interested in developing policies and procedures for ECE programs that reflect and integrate ECE best practices and Gitxsan values.
  • T.R.U.E. In The Trees

    Salmon Arm

The Salmon Arm leadership project team in collaboration with their community partners and building on the strengths in their ECE community, they inspired residents to enjoy their natural environment with their children through family centered activities. By educating parents and caregivers of the value of learning and brain development that comes with outdoor play and social interaction between families and community they enhanced the knowledge of early childhood while enhancing community capacity.
  • The ECEs of the City Of Prince Rupert bring you “National Children’s Day”

    Prince Rupert

The Prince Rupert leadership project team created partnerships with community stakeholders to highlight the importance of the Rights of the Child and acknowledge Universal Day of the Child. They invited their community to partake in the day and extended an invitation to the surrounding communities such as Lax Kw’alaams, Metlakatla, Gitga’at, Kitkatla and Port Edward.

Cohort 5 Leadership Link

By Christine Buttkus. Photos by Shawn Nygren
The Leadership Link is a legacy of Cohort 2 that was to welcome the incoming leadership cohort and build connections across and between cohorts. Each year's events and activities were shaped by a planning committee of leadership participants and alumni with support from ECEBC. The event was guided by survey input from leadership alumni and took place at ECEBC's annual conferences to minimize travel costs. View the slideshow below or download the Leadership Link Slideshow PDF (28 Mb).
